When is it safe to leave my puppy alone?

Question: Hi!  I am very fortunate to have a coworker that is friends with the director of our local animal shelter. One day she brought in to work an entire litter of West Highland Terrier puppies that had been rescued. They were 9 weeks old and needed homes. That’s when I met Chloe and instantly fell in love. I have never owned a puppy, so this is a new experience for me.  Chloe has been a pleasure from day one. I have been crate training her with marvelous results. I just have a couple of questions: When will I know that she is ready to be left alone outside her crate? She has had a couple of accidents but never on the carpeting. Also, lately she does not want to eat her dry puppy food(IAMS) except for little bits at a time. Should I change her to another brand of food? Even though I give her doggy biscuits and treats, I’m concerned she is not getting enough of the proper nutrition. Thank you in advance for your advice. - from Ginny
