Bichone-Maltese Mix Won’t Stop Biting
Question: Our 8 month old Bichon-Maltese mix won’t stop biting. He doesn’t bite hard, I think you call it mouthing, but it’s not nice when visitors come. How do we make him stop? - from Neville

Other than some new teeth adjustments, your puppy is no longer mouthing, but trying to see what he can do with his new set of teeth. It’s time to set some limits! He’s still a puppy, so he’ll be playful, and since dogs are oral, their body’s main playing tool will always be the mouth.
Despite the rationale, you’ve got to put a stop to biting. NO! is a great start.
Next, hold his muzzle closed when he bites and tap the tip of his nose. Do the same thing when he does it again. As you continue with this repetition, your dog WILL learn that his action (biting) is followed by your disappointment and holding his muzzle which he absolutely hates.
You’re not hurting him, but setting limits so you’ll both have a happy and long life together.
