Cleaning a Samoyed Fur

Question:  I have a 1 year old samoyed who has yellow stains on her coat and I cant remove them, I’ve tried many different shampoos but none work.  Any cleaning advice? - from Neil

Answer: Are you sure these are stains and not a new coloring developing in her coat? They’re not solely on her face, are they?

There are several brands of shampoo that advertise use for “white” dogs. They’re usually blue and really leave a nice snowy color. “Stains” can be treated with some cream bleaches especially formulated to lighten the color and make it less prominent.

They’re mostly used for tear staining caused by increased tear production or decreased tear drainage. If you choose to go this route, make sure you test a patch first (like a hair dye, you must do a sensitivity test), keep it away from the eyes, and use sparingly.

The next time you visit your veterinarian ask him/her what he thinks - there may be a new coloring developing as your dog matures.
